  El Grupo de Evaluación de las Naciones Unidas (UNEG), en su calidad de grupo de evaluadores/as profesionales, emprendió la tarea de definir normas y estándares para contribuir a la profesionalización de la función de evaluación y proveer orientación a las oficinas de evaluación en la elaboración de sus políticas de evaluación u otros aspectos de sus operaciones. Esta iniciativa se acometió, en parte, como respuesta a la Resolución A/RES/59/2501 de la Asamblea General de diciembre de 2004, que exhortaba a UNEG a profundizar la cooperación en materia de evaluación entre todas las organizaciones del sistema, especialmente en lo que se refiere a la armonización y simplificación de las metodologías, normas, estándares y ciclos de evaluación.
