AfrEA has always been led by volunteers who are not paid for their services. Five Presidents have served AfrEA to date, each supported by a small volunteer Board and time-bound, goal orientated working groups drawn from national evaluation associations. An AfrEA Secretary was provided by UNICEF EARO in Nairobi (1999-2002) and by Evalnet South Africa (2003-2006).

At the Fourth AfrEA Conference in Niamey, Niger, a small interim Executive Board was appointed by the conference plenary with the task to oversee the formalisation of AfrEA  and establish a framework and strategic direction for the next phase of its development.

AfrEA new leadership was elected at the AfrEA fifth conference held in Cairo, Egypt from 29 March to 2 April 2009.

AfrEA a toujours été dirigée par des volontaires qui ne sont pas payes pour leurs services. Cinq Présidents ont servi AfrEA jusqu'à présent, chacun d’eux soutenu par un petit Bureau constitué de volontaires soucieux du temps imparti, et de groupes de travail soucieux des objectifs  a atteindre parmi les membres d’associations nationales d’évaluation. Un secrétaire avait été fourni à AfrEA par l’UNICEF EARO a Nairobi (1999-2002) et par Evalnet Afrique du Sud (2003-2006).
A la quatrième conférence d’AfrEA a Niamey au Niger, petit Comité de direction provisoire avait été nommé en séance plénière avec la tache de surveiller la formalisation d’AfrEA et d’établir une structure et une direction stratégique pour la phase suivant de son développement.
La nouvelle équipe dirigeante d’AfrEA a été élue à la cinquième conférence d’AfrEA tenue au Caire en Egypte du 29 Mars au 2 Avril 2009.
